3 Delicious Home-Made Belgian Chocolate Easter Treats

3 DELICIOUS HOME-MADE BELGIAN CHOCOLATE EASTER TREATS

By Waterbridge - March 3, 2017

Do you want to do something special for this year's Easter treats? Thinking about creating something personal and home-made? Here are three delicious Belgian chocolate treat ideas that will bring your Easter to the next level!

1. Easter Egg Nests

Here’s a fun way to present your candy eggs; build them a nest! All you’ll need for this sweet treat is a muffin tin lightly coated with non-stick spray, some chow mein noodles (pretzel sticks will work in a pinch, but the twisty chow mein noodles tend to look much better), a bar of Belgian chocolate, and, of course, some kitchenware.

  1. Melt the chocolate using the double-boiler method.
  2. Place the chow mein noodles in a bowl and drizzle the chocolate over them. Stir them around to make sure they're completely covered.
  3. Spray the muffin tin with non-stick spray, and add a spoon full of chocolate-coated noodles into each cup of the tin.
  4. Press down gently in the middle of the noodles to shape the middle of the nest into a bowl.
  5. Add the candy eggs. You may want to dip their backs in chocolate to make sure they don't roll away on you.

When the chocolate dries, voila! You've got adorable little chocolate nests!

2. Surprise Egg

All you'll need is a bar of solid Belgian chocolate, some egg-shaped moulds, some basic baking supplies, and some treats to hide inside your eggs! These are very simple, super fun, and are bound to become a family favorite! To make a hollow 'surprise egg':

  1. Melt the chocolate using the double-boiler method.
  2. Drizzle the melted chocolate into the mould, coating it as evenly as possible. You may want to use a brush or spoon to make sure it's completely covered (but not enough to fill it).
  3. Place the mouldface-down on the wax paper and leave it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to harden.
  4. Repeat the process with a second mould to make the other half.
  5. When both halves are solid, remove them from the moulds. Fill one half with the surprise treats—any type of candy will do.
  6. Warm a plate in the microwave for a few seconds (not enough to let it get hot, it just needs to be warm to the touch).
  7. Press the empty half open-side-down for just long enough to melt the edge, and then quickly press it against the other half to seal it shut.

This deceptively simple technique is very flexible—in fact we already published this same recipe using a different shape in last month's Valentine Ideas post. Say what you will, though, it's a very handy technique, and we wouldn't be surprised if it made another appearance during other holidays! Really, is there any holiday that you can't celebrate with candy-filled chocolate?

3. 'Brown Bears'

While they might not exactly be Easter-related, these delicious treats will certainly be welcome at any Easter celebration—and they're extremely simple to make as well. First, melt some Belgian chocolate using the double-boiler method. Next, drop in a few gummy bears, fish them out using a slotted spoon after a few minutes, and then leave them to dry on either wax paper or a silicone baking mat.

When they harden, you'll be left with a delicious chocolate bear that has a sweet gummy surprise center.

3 ½. 'Inside-Out Easter Eggs'

Candy-coated chocolate eggs are a staple of Easter treats. But what about chocolate-coated candy eggs?

Using the same method we use to make 'brown bears', we can also take solid candy eggs (or jelly beans) and coat them in Belgian chocolate for a fun inside-out Easter treat!
